ALERT: DEADLINE EXTENDED: California Sexual Harassment Training
September 4, 2019
CalNonprofits Insurance Services has provided you with updates on the new California Harassment Training requirements for employers with 5 or more employees. The deadline to complete this training and education has been extended from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.
How does this impact your organization and employees?
Employers with five or more employees must provide 2 hours of approved sexual harassment training for supervisors and at least one hour of training for non-supervisory employees by January 1, 2021 (new deadline).
NOTE: If the training and education requirement was already completed in 2019, then there is no further training and education requirement for two years
Some highlights of the requirements include:
- New employees or those promoted to a supervisory position must complete training within 6 months from the date of being hired or promoted.
- Seasonal and temporary employees must complete the training within 30 calendar days from being hired or within 100 hours worked, whichever occurs first.
- Employers may develop their own training program (including using a qualified vendor), or they may utilize courses yet to be developed by the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (should be available in late 2020).
